We were thrilled to host our first-ever Port Career Day, welcoming young people from local schools, colleges and training providers for an immersive look at the wide range of careers available at one of the South East’s most active working ports.
Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to meet teams from across the organisation, including Engineering, Finance, Property, Port Kitchen, HGV Operations, Marketing and Sustainability. Each team gave insights into their roles and demonstrated how every part of the Port works together to keep operations running safely and efficiently.
Highlights of the day included the chance to step inside a working HGV, try the remote control lock gates, take tours of key areas and learn about the Port’s sustainability initiatives, including the Southwick Reef project and ongoing work towards a greener future.
“It was great to work in conjunction with Penny Daly, Enterprise Coordinator at the West Sussex, Brighton & Hove Careers Hub,” says Alison Barstow, Head of People Team at Shoreham Port.
“We opened our doors and invited future generations to learn more about careers not only at the Port, but in the maritime industry in general. Our fantastic colleagues went ‘All In’ to share their knowledge and experience with students hoping to inspire their future career choices.”
The event also provided an important opportunity to highlight the training and development pathways available at Shoreham Port, including the apprenticeship programme. Applications for the next intake opens on 27 March 2026 and will be available here
The Port extended its thanks to all staff who contributed to making the day a success, and to the students for their enthusiasm and thoughtful questions throughout.
