Shoreham
Port is delighted to welcome their third apprentice, Daniel Ancell to the team, who has been
successfully appointed as a Workshop Fitter Apprentice. The Port is supporting Daniel on his studies in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Competence,
which he will study at City College in Brighton. He will be learning all
aspects of mechanical and electrical engineering, and hydraulics and fabrication.
When Daniel
left school he worked for Southern Rail at Brighton station, and then started
an apprenticeship with a light vehicle company in Southwick, attending college for
one year before joining Shoreham Port. The Port will work closely with Daniel
and his college to ensure a successful completion of his apprenticeship.
Daniel was
attracted to the Port because of its reputation for job security and for being
a company that invests in their staff. The diverse plant and equipment used at
the Port was also a contributing factor, as it is a great opportunity to work
on so many different makes and models of machinery.
Daniel
commented, “I would like to thank the Port for this opportunity and to enable
me to complete my apprenticeship. I am sure I will enjoy my employment and working
with all the various machinery. I look forward to learning more about the Port
as a business. My colleagues are very friendly and have made me feel very
welcome”.
Alan
Motterham, Shoreham Port’s Commercial & Operations Director, said “Daniel
is a very confident and motivated person; we look forward to working with him
and helping him gain lots of experience. For the last two years we have taken
on an apprentice each year, and we are very pleased to add a third to help the
local youngsters get a foot on the job ladder”.
