Our Marine Operations Assistant role offers an opportunity to experience many different aspects of marine operations within a Port allowing you to decide in which area to specialise.
About Shoreham Port
Shoreham Port operates 24/7 365 days of the year within a fascinating and complex marine environment, where no two days are the same! You will be working with the dynamic and highly skilled marine team of Lockmasters, Pilots, Coxswains, Tug Masters, and Mooring Crew who undertake a diverse range of Port activities - bed levelling, towage, workboats, marine maintenance or working in Shoreham Harbour Radio. We pride ourselves on providing a high standard of training and progression support.
Key Tasks
- Assisting aboard all Port craft when required
- Carrying out routine patrols within the harbour
- Performing regular checks on equipment around the Port such as life buoys, fire extinguishers, tide boards, hydrant pits and watering equipment
- Taking notice of and assisting with any maintenance duties around the Port as directed
Key Skills
- Power Boat Level 2 Qualifications is essential as well as a full UK Driving Licence
- You must be an excellent team player as you will work with your colleagues to ensure marine operations are carried out safely
- Polite, clear communication and customer service skills as you may need to relay key information to our stakeholders
- A passion for learning and keeping up to date with changes within Marine legislation
- Basic IT skills

- It will be a condition of any offer made that the candidate pass an ENG1 Medical. Further guidance about conditions that can impact an applicantās ability to pass that medical can be found here
- Please be aware that we are currently unable to offer positions as Marine Operations Assistants to candidates with colour vision deficiency
- Due to the need for short notice call outs for marine emergencies, we require the Marine Operations Assistant to live within one hours commuting travel time of the Port
