Over the last two years, we have expanded our apprenticeship programme and onboard new apprentices annually. An apprenticeship at Shoreham Port includes hands-on training and mentorship, preparing you for a bright future in your chosen career.
Our apprenticeship window opens in March/April where candidates will have the opportunity to complete an application form and apply to their chosen apprenticeship. This will be done via Google Docs, where we are interested in getting to know all about you! Please complete the application form with as much information as possible and see the timeline below as a guideline of how we complete our recruitment process for apprentices.

- Apply to an apprenticeship In early Spring of the following year, our apprenticeship recruitment launches with candidates able to apply for their selected apprenticeship, via the application process.
- Get to know us Candidates will be invited to a âGetting to know usâ evening in May, to find out more about working life at the Port and to meet some of our friendly team (Parents & Caregivers are welcome).
- Get to know you In July, the Port will then host a âGetting to know youâ day which will give you the opportunity to showcase yourself in some team building exercises and meet our hiring managers.
- Outcome Following the âGetting to know you dayâ our experienced hiring managers will make their decision, and a member of the People Team will be in contact with you to let you know the outcome.
- Start your apprentice journey The successful candidates will be onboarded at the Port and the relevant College or training provider for your course, and your Apprenticeship at the Port will begin in early September.

At Shoreham Port, we believe in investing in people allowing them to grow and develop into their chosen career path. We demonstrate support for achievements, whether big or small and celebrate apprentice milestones. One of these achievements includes our Data Technician Apprentice who won an award from Port Skills & Safety (the UKâs professional safety and skills membership organisation for ports) for their presentation on âWhat does the Port of tomorrow look likeâ.
Here at the Port, we can help achieve this by providing tailored support for your professional growth and partnering with trusted education providers. We have a strong partnership with the Chichester College Group (CCG) delivering college training for your apprenticeship in collaboration with your on-the-job training at work. For specialist training e.g., Marine apprentices, we work in partnership with Marine Society & Sea Cadets (MSSC).

The skills and expertise Meg brings to the team are completely invaluable. Working on her studies alongside an array of projects here at the Port, Meg is able to feed new ideas, skills and expertise into all that she does, bringing fresh perspective and energy to the team, driving forward change and increasing our capabilities!
Our Marine Apprentice has been a valuable addition to the team, bringing enthusiasm, a strong willingness to learn, and fresh innovative ideas. He has worked with a variety of teams to get a better understanding of the portâs operations including daily canal patrols, working on the tugs and in Port control during shipping operations. He has also had the opportunity to operate the portâs new electric vessel.
Madison brings genuine value to our team through her fresh perspective, proactive approach and willingness to grow. Her development over the past year has been inspiring, and her work continues to strengthen the impact of our Marketing and Communications function.
Dara quickly understood how the Port operates and the importance of our Values and high standards required to ensure all our colleagues remain safe at work and be the best that we can be at work. He started his engineering experience on the 38 forklifts using the method of âSee One, Learn One and Do Oneâ. Within weeks, using this method, he was already carrying out full services on the forklifts with minimum supervision. Over the 3 years of the apprenticeship, we look forward to watching him professionally grow his skillset as he learns the more advanced engineering required for more varied vehicles and the unique opportunities working on the Port cranes.
Freya and Lyla joining the Finance team through the apprenticeship programme provides a supportive framework to launch their careers. The programme offers structured training, hands-on experience and exposure to a live finance function, enabling them to build practical skills, confidence and professional capability. Working alongside experienced colleagues allows them to learn in real time, understand how finance supports the wider Port and develop a strong foundation for future progression.
Alongside these benefits, the apprenticeships bring clear value to Shoreham Port. Fresh thinking and new skills support continuous improvement in processes, while mentoring opportunities enable existing colleagues to develop leadership and supervisory capability. The additional resource allows the entire Finance team to add value across the Port.
Who can apply?
To start an apprenticeship, youâll need to be:
- 16 or over*Â
- Living in England**
- Not in full-time educationÂ
*You can apply for an apprenticeship while youâre still at school, but youâll need to be 16 or over by the end of the summer holidays to start the apprenticeship.
**Shoreham Port is not registered with the UK Home Office and do not sponsor candidates who require a visa or work permit to work in the UK; therefore, an offer of employment cannot be made unless you currently hold the rights to live and work in the UK.
