Ports poetry competition launched today!

Do you have a passion for poetry? Do you have any special memories or unusual experiences to write about? If so, Shoreham Port would like to hear from you!

We are pleased to announce the launch of our first Community Poetry Competition. The Poetry Competition follows on from the Port’s extremely successful Community Art Competition that took place last year. Last year’s competition marked the start of a partnership between Shoreham Port and Southwick Station and to continue to build on this, the Port’s Poetry Competition is again linked to the Station. The winning poem will be printed and displayed at Southwick Station, in order to further enhance the appearance of the Station.

Sam Bryant, Community Rail Development Manager commented “What a fantastic project and certainly a first for Southern Rail. The winning poem will offer visitors an insight into Southwick and Shoreham and be something people will remember fondly about the station. The Poetry Competition is another wonderful example of how Shoreham Port works to engage with their local community”.

The theme of the competition is ‘Shoreham Port’ and it is open to all ages and abilities. There is no word limit for poems but as a guide we recommend approximately 150-200 words.  

The winner of the Poetry Competition will have the unique opportunity to have their poem printed and displayed at Southwick Station and included on Shoreham Port’s website, as well as a tour of the Port and a tug ride for two people followed by a complimentary lunch at Carats Café*. The runner up will receive a walking port tour for two people and inclusion on the Port’s website, as well as two copies of Shoreham Harbour Insights. Third prize winner will receive a walking port tour for two people and inclusion on the website.

We look forward to reading through the poems over the coming weeks and uncovering some hidden talents.”
