We heard today that E.ON Climate and Renewables have chosen Newhaven Port as the

location for their operations and maintenance base for the proposed Rampion

Offshore Wind Farm in preference to Shoreham. Both ports had put bids into E.ON

to house the base which is needed to operate and maintain the wind farm once

built.

Peter Davies Development Director at

Shoreham Port said “Naturally we are disappointed that Shoreham hasn’t been

chosen as the location for the maintenance base for Rampion. We are a very busy

port with little spare room and it would have been a tight squeeze, but

nevertheless we made a bid to E.ON because of the jobs on offer and the likely

boost it would give to the local economy. We put in an exceptionally good bid

but Newhaven in the end could offer more space and flexibility. Fortunately, we

were not reliant on getting the E.ON business as the site is already in use and

we are exploring other opportunities to continue growing the port. We wish

Newhaven every success”.
