Shoreham Port was delighted to welcome Charlotte Hudson to the team for a week’s experience in a very different port. Charlotte is Deputy Harbour Master at Yarmouth Harbour in the Isle of Wight and wanted to learn the ropes at a much larger commercial Port and gain key skills to share with her colleagues at Yarmouth.

Charlotte spent the majority of the week working alongside Shoreham Port’s Deputy Harbour Master, Will Barker. With help from staff at Shoreham Port Charlotte was able to see all areas of the business in action, from bringing ships into the Port and discharging them, to how the website is updated and maintained. Charlotte also set sail into the cold winds on the Port’s Tug ‘Adurni’ and Pilot Cutter.  During the week Charlotte worked with a number of other employees at Shoreham Port including Development Director, Peter Davies, Commercial and Operations Director, Alan Motterham and Director of Engineering, Tony Parker.

Charlotte Hudson, Deputy Harbour Master at Yarmouth Harbour commented “I have really enjoyed my week here at Shoreham Port. Everyone has been friendly and welcoming and has happily given up their time to take me around the Port and show me how it's run. There are vast and varied activities that occur around the Port and people are always looking for improvements and to the future. I have learnt a lot in the last week and I am very grateful for this opportunity. There is a great team here at Shoreham and I hope I get to work with them again in the future.”

Julian Seaman, Harbour Master at Shoreham Port said “Shoreham Port is proactive in developing the skills of its workforce and is always willing to assist neighbouring ports to diversify their staff with other marine operations not normally carried out. Charlotte fitted straight into our marine team and assisted in our day to day marine operations including towage, bed levelling and port patrols.”
