The phrase ‘no two days are the same’ is a common saying you will hear from staff at Shoreham Port. With a busy operations division and a high number of vessel movements each week, the Port offers employees a dynamic and exciting working environment. The Port supports and assists their employees where possible, to find the best match for their skill set and ambitions within their various functions. Following a series of internal movements, an opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to work and train as a Coxswain/Assistant Lockmaster within the marine department. The Coxswain/Assistant Lockmaster will be responsible for the safe boarding and landing of pilots, general servicing and maintenance of the pilot cutters and assisting the Lockmaster with the operational requirements of Shoreham Harbour Radio.
The role will also involve waterborne security, safety patrols and safety and equipment audits on the pilot cutters. The Coxswain/Assistant Lockmaster will be working within a team of five on an equally shared tidal system, designed to operate throughout the year on a fully inclusive basis for approximately 160 hours per month.
Candidates must be qualified to an appropriate level (Advanced Powerboat commercial endorsement or equivalent). Other key skills required for this role include, Port/Seafaring/Marine operations background, technical Knowledge of the Port Marine safety Code, ENG1/ML5 medical certificate and at least two years relevant experience. VHF Radio certificate, Sea Survival and a First Aid certificate are all desirable qualifications.
