Shoreham Port has been named amongst the best in the UK’s £116bn maritime sector after being shortlisted in the fourth Maritime UK Awards.

The Maritime UK Awards are an excellent opportunity for the industry to come together, showcase achievements and celebrate all things maritime. In the past year, since the sector came together in Glasgow, Maritime UK has published its 2022 State of the Maritime Nation report which revealed the £116bn economic impact of UK maritime, supporting over 1.1 million jobs and paying 30% more than the national average.

We are delighted to have been shortlisted in the Diversity and Inclusion Champion category after impressing industry judges with our ongoing commitment to building an inclusive culture for our 200 colleagues, as well as contributing to wider industry efforts through our role as a founding member of the Diversity in Maritime taskforce. This category celebrates organisations that demonstrate a true commitment to diversity and inclusion, creating a diverse workforce through collaborating with other businesses, charities and organisations to share best practices.

At Shoreham Port we continually take steps to build an inclusive environment; from gender balance at leadership levels as well as LGBTQ+ and BAME representation, to everyday acts of inclusion, like diverse interview panels, neurodivergent-friendly recruitment processes, free period products, flexible working, and mental health training for colleagues, as well as becoming the first Port to sign the Pregnancy Loss Pledge

Tom Willis, Chief Executive at Shoreham Port said “We have an excellent team at the Port; every day our colleagues take steps to build a culture that welcomes and includes everyone, whatever their strengths and experience. As we diversify our portfolio at Shoreham Port, we grow our ability to operate as a diverse and inclusive supplier, partner, workplace, neighbour, and community leader.

Tom added "Winning such prestigious recognition would acknowledge and praise our ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion whilst challenging us to do more. This would send an empowering message across the wider maritime sector. It recognises what can be achieved when we listen to colleagues and partners, collaborate and choose to change together.”

Sarah Kenny, Chair of Maritime UK said “2022 was a year of significant activity for the maritime sector, and there is real momentum across the sector as we target our Maritime 2050 ambitions. The 2023 awards will therefore be a fantastic opportunity to showcase and celebrate the growing number of world-leading projects, developments and initiatives helping to ensure the UK's position as the most innovative, competitive, and sustainable maritime centre by the middle of this century."

The awards ceremony will take place at the Hilton Double Tree in Hull on 9th March 2023.
