Shoreham Port has a well-established Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Group which meets once a month to discuss donation requests, projects in the community and other ways the Port can benefit its stakeholders. This summer has been particularly busy with a range of CSR activities taking place.
In June, Katie Orchin, the Port’s Marketing & Communications Manager spent her Stakeholder Leave day volunteering for The Friday Club on Shoreham Beach. The Friday Club meets once a week and helps to combat loneliness amongst the elderly community in Shoreham.
Katie commented “I had a wonderful day serving afternoon tea at the Friday Club’s Annual Strawberry Tea Party. It was a pleasure to meet their members and spend the afternoon listening to live music and enjoying a slice of cake. The Friday Club clearly means a great deal to its members and is such a welcoming environment for people to make friends.”
Judy Bradshaw from the Friday Club added “Katie was such a star! The feedback has been so warming and the general consensus is, please come back for the Christmas party Katie.”
The Friday Club also had a visit from Nicky Goldsbrough, Director of Corporate Services at Shoreham Port, who delivered an insightful presentation about job opportunities and the important role the Port plays as a major local employer. Nicky also covered the history of the Port and its ambitious plans for the future.
Shoreham Port has presented to and provided a number of tours for many community groups so far this year including; the Oxford International Language School, local stakeholders at the Port’s Annual Public Meeting, Peter Gladwin Primary School, the Sussex Chamber of Commerce and Coast to Capital.
At the end of June, the Port made a donation to St Peter’s Catholic Primary School in Shoreham. The money donated will be put towards purchasing a new interactive white-board for one of the Key Stage 2 classrooms.
Mrs Crees from St Peter’s Catholic Primary School commented “We were delighted to be considered for the donation and spent a very enjoyable afternoon with Georgia and Patrick from Shoreham Port.”
In July, the Port was pleased to be able offer a donation to Shoreham Beach Primary School to fund a new climbing frame as part of their playground renovation for the lower school. The new playground will be built over the summer holidays and an official opening will be taking place in September.
Alison Moore, Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA) Committee Member at Shoreham Beach Primary School commented “We simply cannot thank the Port enough for their generosity and support. The whole committee is absolutely over the moon. By funding such a large proportion of the lower school equipment, the Port is helping the entire school as we can now concentrate our fundraising on providing some equipment for the upper school as well.”
