Shoreham Port regularly offers tours to local stakeholders interested in pursuing a career within the Port, maritime industry or a related sector. This week the Port was delighted to host first-year Systems Thinking & Practice student Danny Booth from The Open University, for a day at the Port.

Danny spent the day learning about the infrastructure and innovative technologies that are utilised around the Port by spending time with key members of the team. The day started with an overview of the Ports Masterplan by Director of Property & Development, Tim Hague. This was followed by an in-depth tour of the Port by Director of Engineering, Tony Parker. Danny was particularly interested to learn more about the Ports strategy and proposals for future development over the next 20 years.

After lunch Danny continued his ‘behind-the-scenes’ tour of the Port with a visit to the new Lady Bee Enterprise Centre, which is currently under construction by Southwick based firm Pilbeam Construction. Danny learnt about how these new modern business units, due for completion in Spring 2019, are set to increase the Ports renewable energy generation with solar panels and electric car charging points. He was also told about how the scheme will bring additional jobs to Southwick and expand Shoreham Port’s thriving tenant community.

Graham Paul, Site Manager at Pilbeam Construction commented “It was a pleasure to show Danny the developments taking place on Lady Bee Enterprise today as we continue to hit our target programme. Danny had the chance to see the block 3 steel frame which has now been erected and the block 1 oversite slab in the final stages of being cast. We also looked at the retaining walls to the north of the site which are now underway and the utilities that are being laid as the work progresses. We hope Danny enjoyed his visit to the Port and learning more about this exciting new tenant space.’’

Danny commented “I had a fantastic day with the Shoreham Port team, it was great to get a no holds barred insight into this local asset. Shoreham Port is an excellent example of complex systems being managed holistically to deliver benefit at local, regional and national level.  A big thank you to all who made the day so informative and welcoming.’’

Tim Hague, Director of Property & Development said ‘’It was a real pleasure to meet Danny and from my side, to explain our Masterplan and property strategy.  We are always very happy to give our neighbours and stakeholders an insight into our work and plans at the port. I wish Danny every success in the future.’’
