Shoreham Port have been taking part in Small Business Saturday this month, a campaign which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to shop locally and support small businesses in their communities. Now in its 7th year in the UK, the campaign has grown significantly with an estimated £812 million spent in small businesses across the UK during last year’s campaign – an 8% increase on the previous year.

As well as gaining significant media coverage and support from leading figures, Tweets posted in 2018 in support of the campaign reached more than 100 million people, with #SmallBizSatUK and #SmallBusinessSaturday trending in the UK throughout the day. This year, Shoreham Port shared a social media campaign throughout the first week of December, shining a spotlight on the diverse businesses that are based across their commercial waterside office units.

Heather, Port tenant at One Green Bottle commented ‘We just love our new location at the heart of Shoreham Port with views out to sea, the windfarm, the locks and Shoreham marina. It is a beautiful location and we have a nice community of SME businesses. The Port has been very forward-thinking in investing in car charging points, solar power and BREEAM standard buildings and this is synergistic to our ethos’’.

“One Green Bottle supplies stainless steel water bottles and lunchboxes. We have been operating for over 12 years during which time our wonderful customers have saved billions of single use plastic water bottles from going into the oceans and landfill. Our proximity to the sea here is a powerful daily reminder of the importance of swapping single use plastics for reusables.”

Another way Shoreham Port has supported businesses in their community this year is by donating some exciting prizes for the Southwick Square Christmas Market on Saturday 7th December – tickets for a behind-the-scenes Port Tour and an £80 voucher for The New Port Arms. This unique pub, restaurant and function venue with a view of Lady Bee Marina will also be holding a Christmas Craft Fair on the same day to support local artisan producers and crafters. Festive food and drinks will be available alongside carol singing by local choir ‘The Lone Rangers’.

Tim Hague, Director of Property and Development at Shoreham Port commented ‘It’s fantastic to hear directly from our tenants why they have chosen to base their varied businesses at Shoreham Port as part of Small Business Saturday. As a Trust Port, we pride ourselves on being a responsible and fair landlord, willing to be flexible and enable the growth of our tenants who do so much to enrich our local community.’’
