Shoreham Port was thrilled to hear that Tim Mansfield, previously sponsored by the Port for his fishing competition in support of the Argus Appeal, broke his clubs record for cod by catching a fish weighing 25lbs 1oz in December whilst fishing from Shoreham Port. Tim and the other members of the Shoreham-based South Coast Angling Club have seen their club record for cod beaten four times since the beginning of December 2012.
In January, Dominic Camilleri and Darren Butcher raised the bar even higher when fishing from their private boat, "Riptide", out of Shoreham. They caught seven cod in total - all tempted by whole cuttle baits with Darren's best catch weighing in at 29lbs 3ozs, but Dominic claimed the new club record with a gigantic fish of 40lbs 12ozs.
South Coast Angling Club Secretary, Reg Phillips commented “We really have enjoyed a cracking run of fish from our waters of late, and the recent run of form has got our members wondering if there is a fifty out there that can be lured to the scales! I certainly wouldn’t bet against it in 2013.”
William Barker, Deputy Harbour Master at Shoreham Port commented “We would like to congratulate South Coast Angling on their fishing success. It is fantastic to see that there are still sizeable Cod off the Port.”
