Shoreham Port were delighted to welcome on board Matt Bendall from Albion in the Community’s Want to Work programme, for a week’s work experience with the Port’s engineering team.
Paul Johnson, Safety & HR Director said"We have fully supported and been involved with the Want to Work scheme since it was set up. Albion in the Community provides a fantastic service to our community and we take our role as a local business just as seriously. It is so important to engage with young local people and as a responsible employer we must ensure that we do all that we can to assist people like Matt, and we're looking forward to welcoming more individuals to the Port in the future".
Matt Bendall commented “I chose Shoreham Port for my work experience because I have a big interest in engineering and maritime activities and would like to work in an engineering and marine environment. I thoroughly enjoyed every activity that I took part in, most of all the working with the welders. This involves preparation, setting up and some concentration! I was lucky enough to have a go myself with guidance from the team, which I was very pleased about. The beach work was another great experience; I was able to help fix some of the sea wall, which was very rewarding”.
Matt continues “I have learnt a lot during my week at Shoreham Port and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone there for making me feel welcome and giving me such a valuable insight into how the Port is run. I am really hoping to secure an engineering apprenticeship at the Port in the future and I am excited by this potential opportunity”.
Feedback from the individuals is crucial to the ongoing success of the scheme and the education team at Albion in the Community work closely with businesses to help maximise what candidates get from the experience.
