Portslade Adult Learning recently took over the running of Foredown Tower as an Adult Learning and Visitor Centre. Foredown Tower is housed in a beautiful Edwardian water tower perched on the edge of the Downs overlooking Portslade. With the help of dedicated volunteers, Portslade Adult Learning has reopened its camera obscura to the public. The camera obscura is one of only two on the south coast and is also one of the largest in the country.
On Saturday 31st August Foredown Tower is hosting the Portslade Adult Learning Summer Fair. Shoreham Port were keen to support this community based event and are an official sponsor of the fair. As a trust port, Shoreham focuses on helping charities and community groups within the hinterland of the Port.
Jayne Routley, Centre Development Officer at Foredown Tower commented “It is extremely heart-warming to find businesses like Shoreham Port who are keen to support local events like our summer fair. Foredown Tower is a fantastic venue for Portslade Adult Learning. The Summer Fair will be a great opportunity for the local community to get together and see the amazing transformation of this water tower into an adult education facility”.
On the day of the fair there will be camera obscura demonstrations, exhibitions of students’ work, a chance to chat with the tutors, as well as helping Portslade Adult Learning to raise funds for the tower with raffles, games, ‘Make It’ sessions and cream teas.
Each month Shoreham Port receives a high number of donation and sponsorship requests and aims to support as many causes as possible.
