The welfare and safety of staff and stakeholders is very important to Shoreham Port and first aid training is a core skill the Port encourages all staff to develop. Over 75% of the Port’s workforce is trained in First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid Training.
Shoreham Port decided to utilise spare spaces on their first aid courses this month, by extending them to staff at local charity, Emmaus. Emmaus enables homeless people to move on from homelessness by providing them with a home and meaningful work in a community setting. By providing the opportunity for Emmaus staff to obtain a first aid qualification, Shoreham Port are further strengthening their partnership with the local charity, whilst enabling Emmaus staff to develop an important life saving skill.
The Premises Manager at Emmaus, attended a First Aid at Work training course at the Port last week and commented “Many thanks to Shoreham Port for allowing Emmaus to link up with them on their First Aid at Work course. Myself and my colleague both enjoyed the day very much. We thought the trainers and the level of training delivered was to a very high standard, in the Port’s excellent facilities.”
He continued, “It was practical, hands on stuff, covering all areas that l would have expected and was very well structured. By the end of the day we both left feeling confident to be able to administer first aid should the need arise”.
“Many of the training requirements at Emmaus overlap with those of Shoreham Port and we very much hope that this is the first of many courses where we can link up with the Port and promote the highest level of training and Health and Safety for everyone within our organisations.”
Paul Johnson, Shoreham Port’s Director of Compliance commented “Here at Shoreham Port we believe that by training our staff in first aid and giving them the confidence and tools to assist someone under their duty of care, when they most need it is the right thing to be doing. We are delighted to extend this opportunity to staff from Emmaus and we look forward to carrying on doing so in the future.”
