Shoreham Port was delighted to host the Sussex Community Rail Partnership (SCRP) Stakeholder Launch Meeting last week in their Visitor Centre at Nautilus House.

Community rail partnerships provide links between the railway industry and local communities. Partners can include any individual, group or business who wants to improve their local station for the benefit of its users whilst engaging with their community.

As a proactive station partner at Southwick Station, Shoreham Port were keen to be involved in the meeting by supporting the launch of the new West Coastway line and promoting the benefits of forging relationships with your local station.

The meeting brought together members of the local authorities, businesses, station managers and representatives from local community groups who all came to hear about the new line and the many opportunities available to station partners.

The group were welcomed by Tim Barkley, Chairman of the SCRP Board who spoke about their achievements in the last year and their exciting plans for the new West Coastway line.

This was followed by a presentation from Andy Harrowell, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) who discussed the aims for the new line, gave examples of previous station projects and urged local stakeholders to get involved with their stations to make them an enjoyable and welcoming place for all.

Katie MacAllister, Marketing & Communications Manager at Shoreham Port also presented to the group and shared her experience of carrying out various projects at Southwick Station. These included an art and poetry competition and art project with local charity, Concordia Volunteers.

Katie commented “It was fantastic to host the event last week and meet with other station partners to share tips and ideas. The partnerships make a real difference to the stations and local community and we hope today’s event has inspired many more people to sign up as partners along the new West Coastway line.”

Andy from GTR commented “We are delighted to be working with SCRP to set up this new community rail partnership between Hove and Angmering. We are very appreciative of Shoreham Port's efforts as a station partner at Southwick and thank them for their wonderful hospitality this week.”

Rowena Tyler, Community Development Officer at SCRP added “Thank you to Shoreham Port for hosting the launch event and making it such a lovely afternoon for everyone. We have had so much positive feedback, and already have meetings lined up to discuss potential station partnerships and projects, which is fantastic.”
