As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, Shoreham Port has teamed up with local charity As You Are. Based in Southwick, As You Are provides affordable counselling and group work for depression, stress and anxiety for people living in Brighton, Hove, Portslade, Southwick, Shoreham, Lancing and Worthing.

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week at the moment and the theme for this year’s campaign is ‘relationships’. The campaign takes place nationwide and is run by the Mental Health Foundation. During the week the foundation encourages their supporters to hold events and campaigns to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing.

To show their support to Mental Health Awareness Week and to improve awareness in the workplace, the Port invited As You Are to facilitate a workshop for their managers. The session was run by psychotherapist and trainer Ciaran O’Connor, who gave the team guidance on how to identify the signs of mental illness and how to best support people through the challenges that they may face.

In addition to inviting As You Are to deliver training, the Port also made a donation to the charity to help fund two support sessions, Living with Eating Disorders and Relationship Support.

Ciaran commented “It’s a marvelous opportunity to work with Shoreham Port. Mental health is a subject that so many people and organisations can be lulled into panning over. Today we saw some genuine engagement with a very difficult subject that will stand the employees, and all those connected to them, in a far better place.”

Nicky Goldsbrough, Corporate Services Manager at Shoreham Port commented “We were delighted to work with As You Are, that are based just around the corner from our head office. They carry out life changing work and make a real impact. We look forward to working with them again in the future and continuing to promote and support the value that they bring to the community.”

Nicky Hitchcock, Service Manager at As You Are added “We are very pleased that Shoreham Port is supporting our work and this generous donation will directly help local people. A big thank you from all the team, we really appreciate the support of such an important and respected local business as Shoreham Port.”
