Today the Port looks back over the career of Peter Davies, who is retiring after dedicating ten years of his working life to Shoreham Port. Peter joined the Port in 2007, to lead the development of its vast estate. His significant achievements whilst at the Port include producing and updating the Masterplan, a comprehensive strategy with proposals for the future development of the Port over the next twenty years. Additionally, under Peter’s tenure, significant improvements have been made to the Port’s environmental credentials, including achieving Eco-Port status and notable reductions to the Port’s carbon footprint. He has also overseen the smooth running of the Port’s diverse property portfolio, which boasts an eclectic mix of tenants and port users.
Before his time at the Port, Peter spent eight years working for Adur Council where he took on the role of Head of Planning for the district. His role entailed overseeing a team of forty, whilst handling major planning applications for the area. A prominent success from Peter’s time in this role is the Ropetackle in Shoreham, an excellent addition to the area and much valued by the local community.
After a career that spans forty years in the planning and development industry, Peter is eager to continue contributing his expertise once retired. He has become a Director of Brighton Energy Co-operative and will also be pursuing another passion of his, as a shareholder in Adur Brewery.
Peter commented “I’ve very much enjoyed working with everyone at the Port and seeing it grow from strength to strength. It’s a very strange feeling to think I won’t be getting up in the morning to go to work anymore after forty years of doing it, but I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my life with nervous excitement.”
Rodney Lunn, Chief Executive commented “I would like to offer Peter my sincere thanks for his significant contribution to the Port. Over the last ten years the Port has seen great change and growth and Peter’s extensive expertise and guidance have been invaluable. On behalf of the Board and the Port we would like to wish Peter well in his retirement.”
Taking over from Peter is Tim Hague, who has been at the Port for seven years running the property portfolio. Tim commented “I have been very lucky to have worked with Peter for the last seven years, having benefitted from his extensive knowledge and experience. I’m sure he will take a leading role in the activities he has lined up and I wish him every happiness in his retirement.”
