NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Restricted Visibility Procedure will come into force when visibility is deemed to be half of one nautical mile or less. The fog signal, a prolonged siren every two minutes, will be sounded from the East breakwater head during restricted visibility.
Broadcasts will be made on VHF Channel 14 at 15 minutes and 45 minutes past each hour, consisting of the following
"Restricted visibility" is in force. Visibility at Shoreham Harbour Radio is presently reduced by fog and is currently less than 0.50 nautical miles. All vessels are required to navigate in accordance with fog routine, with extreme caution and in strict compliance with the COLREGS."
Whilst Restricted Visibility Procedure is in force, the following shall apply:
i) A Master of a vessel greater than 20 metres length overall is prohibited from moving it in the Western Arm.
ii) A Master of a vessel greater than 20 metres length overall that needs to be towed or pushed is prohibited from moving anywhere within the Harbour.
iii) The Master of any vessel carrying Dangerous Goods is prohibited from moving anywhere within the Harbour.
iv) The Master of any vessel that is prohibited from moving by virtue of i), ii) & iii) above that is in transit at the time when visibility is determined to be less than 0.5 nautical miles must immediately contact Shoreham Harbour Radio and seek a safe lay-by berth.
v) The Master of any vessel less than 20 metres length overall must keep it well clear of vessels more than 20 metres length overall using any fairway.
When visibility at Shoreham Harbour Radio is determined to be less than 0.25 nautical miles:
i) The Master of a vesse greater than 20m length overall is prohibited from moving it anywhere within the Harbour. Such vessels are to remain at anchor or alongside.
International Regulations
Mariners of all vessels are reminded of the requirements of the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea 1972, (as amended) especially Rule 19 (conduct of vessels in restricted visibility) and Rule 5 (Look -out).
All vessels must:
Ø Proceed at a safe speed
Ø Display navigational lights
Ø Make sound signals
Ø Maintain a proper look-out by sight and hearing as well as by all available means
Masters and Skippers must not navigate within the Harbour if they have any doubts about the safety of doing so.
The prohibitions required by this notice may be enforced by a Harbour Master's Direction.

Owners, Agents, Charterers, Marinas, Yacht Clubs and Recreational Sailing Organisations should ensure that the contents of this Notice are made known to the Masters or persons in charge of their vessels or craft.
