SMALL BOAT USERS
National Lifejacket Awareness Campaign
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency, in collaboration with the Royal
National Lifeboat Institution and the Royal Yachting Association, have
launched a national lifejacket awareness campaign.
A panel of UK experts recently reviewed 49 drowning incidents that occurred
during 2007 to determine whether or not a life may have been saved had the
person been wearing a suitable lifejacket or personal floatation device. It was
suggested by the experts that in 29 cases, lives may have been saved.
Shoreham Port Authority fully supports this initiative and strongly
recommends that all recreational boaters using Shoreham Harbour wear a
lifejacket that is maintained, correctly worn and fit for purpose whilst at sea.
