Shoreham Port is delighted to welcome Lee Austin to the Port's Marine Department.

Lee knows all about the port operations having grown up locally in Southwick and attended Kings Manor Community College. He will embark on a three year apprenticeship scheme learning marine engineering, working mainly on board the Tug Adurni.

As well as new engineering skills Lee will also take on board a challenging training programme set by the Harbour Master, learning new skills of boat handling, seamanship and rope work to the standards that are expected of a professional mariner.

Paul Johnson, Safety & HR Manager, said, "It is very important that we recruit locally to support the community and are delighted to offer Lee this new and exciting apprenticeship. We hope to start a number of similar schemes in the port".

Lee Austin commented, "I am very pleased to be working and learning at the same time and the port is a great place to be".

Lee will attend a South Coast Marine Engineering College in Fareham, Hampshire, to enable him to gain the relevant NVQ and City and Guilds engineering qualifications.
