On Saturday afternoon firefighters were called to tackle a fire at the Skip It warehouse at the Eastern end of the port, on the south side.

The fire was quickly brought under control, and no other port buildings or cargo was affected.

The ports emergency response plans worked extremely well, and Julian Seaman the Harbour Master, was on site coordinating with the Incident Commander.

All tenants surrounding the building were notified and kept appraised of the situation.

Rodney Lunn Chief Executive commented "the port regularly practice for this type of emergency, and I am pleased that our teams responded so quickly and worked well with all the services, including the environment agency "
