Shoreham Port’s Manager of Operations & Training, Dave Bunker shared the news this week that his wife Stephanie Bunker had taken part in ‘Brave the Shave’ a national fundraising campaign run by Macmillan Cancer Support.

Stephanie bravely shaved off all of her hair on the 29th August and has raised an incredible £1,300 for the charity so far. Stephanie decided to take part in Brave the Shave to support her sister in law Sue, (Dave's sister) who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Sue started her chemotherapy and started to lose her hair. Stephanie saw Brave the Shave as a way to show her that she was not alone.

Stephanie commented “Having my hair shaved off was a surreal experience. I had separated my hair into several secure ponytails as I wanted to donate it to The Princess Trust in Brighton who use the hair to make real wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments.

Stephanie continued “I wasn't nervous or worried as it was cut, then shaved off, as I knew I was doing it for a good cause. I managed to support Sue and help somebody benefit from my hair donation. The thought of Sue not having a choice about losing her hair made it easier for me to shave mine off. She is my inspiration for this and her bravery is far greater than mine.”

Shoreham Port were pleased to be able to contribute to Stephanie’s Brave the Shave campaign. If you would like to donate to the page please visit www.bravetheshave.org.uk and search ‘Stephanie Bunker’. Stephanie has said that she is surprised and overwhelmed by the support and generosity from family, friends, work colleagues and patients at the Windmill Dental Practice where she works as a dental nurse.

Stephanie added “The owners of Windmill Dental Practice have been brilliant. As well as making a generous donation, they allowed me to put donation forms in reception and put up some posters. I still can't believe how much money I have raised and the figure is still going up! It has been a very humbling experience.”

Shoreham Port are always looking for fundraising events such as Stephanie’s to support and welcomes any local charity requests. If you would like to submit a donation request please apply online at www.shoreham-port.co.uk/Donation-Requests.
