Shoreham Port would like to wish all of their customers and stakeholders a very happy New Year. The Port remained busy during the final quarter of 2015 and expects to see further growth this year in commercial activity.
There were testing weather conditions during the final week of December and some vessels stayed in the Port whilst the worst of the weather passed. However, despite the wind and the rain the Operations Division continued to discharge vessels quickly and efficiently, enabling those able to continue their journey to have a speedy departure.
Various new cargoes are expected into the Port this year. This month the first shipment of telegraph poles arrived from Sweden. The telegraph poles were shipped from Port Kristinehamn and multiple shipments are scheduled to arrive on a monthly basis for up to two years.
The Operations Division are using specialist handling equipment to discharge the high volume of telegraph poles expected. The first shipment contained 500 poles and the following is due to contain 1,000 poles. Once discharged the telegraph poles will be transported by road to Hinkley Point C in Somerset.
Alan Motterham, Commercial/Operations Director at Shoreham Port commented “2015 was another very successful year for the Port. Shipping targets were met and exceeded and we were pleased to welcome a variety of new cargoes adding to our growing cargo portfolio. We are optimistic for an equally successful 2016.”
There will be many opportunities coming up to explore your local Port and take a closer look at the interesting and diverse mix of cargoes handled.
