Shoreham Port has opened bookings for their July boat tours. The ‘behind-the-scenes’ tours will be running from Tuesday 18th to Friday 21st July 2018. Tickets are free of charge and can be booked online via the Port’s website at www.shoreham-port.co.uk/Boat-Tours.
The boat tours first took place in 2015 and have grown in popularity, so much so that the Port has extended the event from two days to four. Last year over 700 people from local school groups, community associations, charities, business groups and individuals enjoyed a tour along the canal, followed by a complimentary ice cream.
The tour takes place on board a large touring boat called Rossann. The boat can hold up to 60 passengers per trip. The tour lasts for approximately 45 minutes and includes running commentary from a member of the team at Shoreham Port. The tours are suitable for all. The morning slots have been reserved for school trips and the commentary will be engaging for children. Children are welcome to attend the afternoon tours (2pm, 3pm and 4pm) however the commentary will be more factual and pitched at a higher level.
The tour departs along the south side of the canal past the terminals where depending on the weekly shipping movements, you could see a vessel being loaded or discharged and catch a glimpse of one of the impressive Sennebogen cranes in action. You will see the various businesses operating on the Port and the diverse range of cargoes. The second half of the tour sails back along the north side of the canal. Key historic sites will be pointed out and questions are welcome at various times along the tour.
Katie Orchin, Marketing & Communications Executive at Shoreham Port commented “We’re really excited about this year’s boat tours. Being able to run them over four days gives us the opportunity to welcome many more members of our community. We’ve got our fingers crossed for the weather, but come rain or shine it will be a fantastic week.”
