This week, Shoreham Port revealed its highly anticipated Lady Bee Enterprise Centre (LBEC), in an exclusive opening event and tour of the new, modern flexible business units. The opening, hosted at the Port by local firm Pilbeam Construction, who were successfully awarded the £3 million project in July last year, showcased the completed 14 contemporary, purpose-built units in Southwick.

LBEC is located adjacent to the lock gates, off Albion Street and the new buildings benefit from enviable views over the Lady Bee Marina moorings. As part of the Port’s longer-term plan for the rejuvenation of the wider Lady Bee Marina area, LBEC will add new companies to the Port’s already thriving tenant community and provide a boost to the local economy.

The Port has continued to maintain its Eco-Port status with the new units, with features on site such as electric vehicle charging points, bicycle racks and recycling storage facilities. They have also installed a number of water-saving measures and solar panels on every roof, in collaboration with Brighton Energy Co-operative. This means the units will increase renewable energy generation and power vital Port facilities including the Prince George and Prince Philip lock gates and the Port’s head office, Nautilus House.

Shoreham Port and Pilbeam Construction hosted a very successful opening event, which was attended by local property industry professionals, including those involved in this project. Attendees enjoyed a light breakfast and presentation by Simon Pilbeam, Managing Director followed by a private ‘behind-the-scenes’ tour of the new units with Tim Hague, the Port’s Director of Property & Development.

Tim commented “We are extremely excited to announce the opening of our Lady Bee Enterprise Centre this week. I am particularly grateful to our contractors and consultants who have worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth delivery of this project. Seeing the new estate completed after months of hard work is an incredible achievement for all involve.”

Tim continued “We are delighted to have completed this estate, enabling the growth of local businesses and bringing jobs to Southwick. Thank you again to everyone involved in the creation of LBEC. The estate has demonstrated bold design and construction excellence, and provided a template for our forthcoming commercial unit developments in Portslade. Please contact us for details of units available at both sites.”

Simon Pilbeam added “‘We are proud to be part of this landmark development at the entrance to the Port. It is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the entire design and construction team. This exemplar project, on reclaimed land, is a superb addition to the portfolio of all stakeholders.’’

Working closely with contractors including ECE Architecture, the Port carefully selected building materials to minimise their travel distance to site from recognised sustainable sources, and designed the spaces to maximise natural sunlight, resulting in bright, modern rooms flooded with light.

Paul Fender, Design Director, ECE Architecture commented “ECE Architecture is honoured to have played a vital role in the design and delivery of an enterprise centre which will act as a catalyst for Sussex businesses for generations to come and we look forward to continuing to build on our relationship with Shoreham Port.”
