NOTICE TO MARINERS
No.2 - 2008
CLOSURE OF PRINCE GEORGE LOCK
Notice is hereby given that on Friday 25th January 2008 at approx 2130hrs a major structural failure occured at the West End Prince George Lock Gate.
The Prince George Lock has therefore now been taken out of commission and will remain so for a period of approximately 6 (six) months in order that essential engineering work can be carried out.
The works will involve the demolition of the existing structure together with the rebuilding.
Throughout this period all vessels to or from the canal will be restricted to passage through the Prince Philip Lock and as a consequence the movements of small craft will be delayed from time to time.

No. 3 - 2008
DRAUGHT OF VESSELS
Pleased be advised that subsequent to the recent intensive bed levelling campaign, surveys indicate that depths at the harbour have improved.
The draughts of all vessels using the harbour entrance may now be uplifted to a maximum of the predicted height of tide plus 0.9 metres. This allows for an adequate under keel clearance in reasonable weather conditions in the entrance.
Masters of vessels holding Pilotage Exemption Certificates should sight the latest survey at the Port Control Building/ Harbour Office at the earliest oppurtunity.

No.4 - 2008
ENVIRONMENT AGENCY SURVEY
Notice is hereby given that between Friday 14th March 2008 and Wednesday 19th March 2008 the Environment Agency will be carrying out a sediment survey of the Western Arm of the River Adur Estuary using a small 6 metre Hovercraft and 19 metre Coastal Survey Vessel (Sea Vigil).
The purpose of the survey is to examine the invertebrates which inhabit the sediment as part of information that is required under the European Water Framework Directive.
Due to the way a hovercraft is operated harbour speed limits will need to be exceeded, although the type of hovercraft being used will generate negligible wake when travelling over the water.
Much of the survey will be over the mudflats in the Western Arm as the surveys are planned to coincide with low water.
Vessels should proceed at a slow speed when navigating in proximity to these vessels. Masters and others in charge of craft are warned to navigate with caution and to pay strict attention to any instructions issued to them by the Port Control Station.
