Local Communities

As a major contributor the life and wellbeing of local people and organisations, maintaining a thriving harbour community is vital to our success.  We work actively with schools and colleges as well as local groups and charities to promote sustainability and strong links between the Port and the community.

The Port holds an Public Open Meeting each year.  The meeting gives us the opportunity to present our plans to members of the public and gives us a forum for a question and answer session with Port officials.  These meetings are an occasion for communicating with the local community, further demostrating the Port's commitment to its principles of accountability and transparency.  In addition we liaise with the local community through a number of leisure facing groups such as the association of harbour communities and the Port Users Group.  Meetings of these groups typically take place every 6 months.

In addition, as part of our drive for openness and to promote a greater understanding of our operations, we regularly arrange visits to the Port.  We are keen to encourage these visits to give guests an insight into the Port's contribution to the local community and economy.
